AG Tish James co-led the effort to keep a discriminatory and dangerous citizenship question off the 2020 Census. The lawsuit ultimately prevailed when the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the Trump Administration’s arguments.
AG Tish James sued the Trump Administration over its “conscience rule,” a rule that would have allowed health providers to refuse to perform services like abortion on religious or moral grounds. A District Court judge in New York ruled in favor of AG James and declared the rule unconstitutional.
AG James is the first African American elected to statewide office in New York and the second woman to hold the office of Attorney General
